The New York Stock Exchange of Seafood – Keeping it Fresh Since 1822
For over two centuries, the Fulton Fish Market Cooperative has stood as a legendary institution in the heart of New York City, earning its place as America’s oldest fish market. Today, it proudly holds the distinction of being the second largest fish market globally, second only to Tokyo’s Tsukiji. Our journey through time and tradition has been one of unwavering dedication to providing the freshest seafood to culinary enthusiasts worldwide since the 1800s.

Explore Our Iconic Legacy In The Hearts Of New York City
What Does the Cooperative Do?
The Fulton Fish Market is a 200-year-old NYC institution that is operated by an established Cooperative. A Cooperative is a member-owned and democratically controlled business or organization that seeks to meet its members’ social, economic, and cultural needs. Here at the Fulton Fish Market Cooperative, we operate as a non-profit. The purpose of the Cooperative is to manage the overall operation of the market, ensuring all businesses reliably receive their product by unloading and delivering their inventory. Additionally, we handle site security, leasehold management, public and government affairs, community relations, compliance and legal matters, branding, and marketing, among other responsibilities.
At the Fulton Fish Market Cooperative, we believe that collaboration is critical in operating this essential NYC food service. Despite many of our businesses being in competition with one another, we believe in the power and importance of community and looking out for our neighbors. We’re in this together, as a family, in providing NYC with a reliable and high-quality food distribution service.
The Spirit of New York City
The Fulton Fish Market Cooperative is not just a marketplace; it’s an iconic part of New York City, rich in history and the city’s indomitable spirit. Originating in Manhattan’s South Street Seaport, our market has led in seafood distribution, symbolizing New York’s culinary legacy.
